Sandy Lockwood has been exploring wood firing and salt glazing for over four decades creating both functional and sculptural ceramics. She holds a graduate Diploma of Visual Arts, Master of Visual Arts and a PhD. She established her studio in 1980 in the Southern Highlands, NSW. Her work has been exhibited across Australia, Europe, Asia, the UK, and the USA, and is held in public and private collections worldwide. Her work captures the movement and flow of clay on the wheel which is then subjected to the drama of wood firing and salt glazing, an unpredictable process allowing new discoveries.
